This species has worldwide distribution, and is often found in association with human habitation. Frequently seen foraging at night in kitchens and pantries where they may become trapped in sinks and receptacles due to their inability to climb smooth or polished surfaces. During the day, they hide behind Wallpaper, skirting boards and beneath loose floor coverings.

Primitive insects, silverfish are often found in association with damp conditions. Although frequently associated with man, they are not Public Health Pests.
