Flea Pest Control

Fleas are fine in a flea circus, but you don’t want them in your home. Forget any stigma that may once have been attached to having fleas. Fleas don’t discriminate between clean and dirty homes.

Fleas go through a complete life cycle, In the beginning they start out as an egg, larva, pupa and then an adult. Completion of the life cycle depends on conditions, temperature food etc But the cycle can take anything from 2 weeks to eight months.

The main source of fleas are from cats and dogs. The female flea normally lays approx 20 eggs a day in the hair coat, but these then drop out on to carpets, rugs and anywhere the animal lays. Adult fleas will readily bite other animal or humans when it is hungry. Fleas are normally just a pest to their host but some people and animals suffer allergic reactions to flea saliva resulting in rashes. Fleabites are generally a slightly raised swollen itching spot with a single puncture point at the centre.

A few precautions can help break the flea’s life cycle and keep them at bay:

• Pets such as cats and dogs should be regularly groomed
• Pets bedding should be changed and washed frequently
• Speak to your vet on products to treat your pets
